Gérard Billaudot,
Éditeur was founded more a century ago in 1896 by Louis Billaudot
(1871-1936) and has remained a family business. Louis Billaudot was
succeeded by his two sons Robert (1910-1981) and Gérard (1911-1986),
the latter managing the company single-handed from 1957. Gérard
Billaudot's son-in-law François Derveaux took over in 1979 as part of
a new structure called Gérard Billaudot Editeur S.A. They are now one
of France's most important publishers in the fields of music teaching
as concerns both works on music theory and instrumental methods and
studies. In 1988 they added works published by Editions Française de
Musique (formerly French Radio & Television),including a large number
of pieces premiered between 1947 and 1975. They also publish a large
number of contemporary composers such as Patrick Burgan, Jacques
Castérède, Qigang Chen, Marc-André Dalbavie, Edison Denisov, Bertrand
Dubedout, Thierry Escaich, Philippe Hurel, Betsy Jolas, Philippe
Leroux, Fabien Levy, Serge Nigg, Germaine Tailleferre and Alexandre
